LinkedIn is going to be very useful to my PLN. I really had no idea what it was all about. I have only heard of it through invitations to connect with people on LinkedIn through emails. I would usually ignore them because I didn't really know anything about it and for the most part I have shied away from social media. So I have learned so much about LinkedIn this week. The first thing I learned is that it will be a great place to find a job. I didn't know that it was a place to connect with companies and people that are looking for employees. This is great news!
I have learned how to do a career search, and I can look for recruiter that are are working with LinkedIn and I can specify the locations so I can narrow it down to certain areas. I am going to work with LinkedIn more and try to connect with people I think will be important for my PLN.
I am brand new to the LinkedIn world as well. Like you, I have received numerous emails in the past from people that have LinkedIn, but I would always ignore their request. Now that we have the opportunity to learn more about it, and how useful it can be, I am excited to know more. Until we started on this section, I had no idea that you can use LinkedIn to look for jobs. I guess it makes sense though if you step back and see that it is a site for business professionals. It is always nice to be able to look more into different career path and opportunities that may be out there. I know firsthand that social media sites can really help out in looking for jobs. My wife had left one job a few years back and posted online that she was looking for a new job and within a week she had been hired because a friend saw her post on Facebook.
